Embracing the diversity of human beings we will find a sure way to true happiness

Embracing diversity

As I continue to study Dee Kumar’s Online Marketing MBA, I can only equate it to Christmas. A weekly Christmas without the hassle of having to buy your Aunty Velda a gift.

Dee Kumar’s course gives me a new gift each week. A spectacular nugget of information that I can use towards increasing my businesses potential.

When I wrote my book on Tax Deed real estate investing my sales strategy was very short-sighted.

At first I thought I would sell this book to every person in the world who wanted to buy bargain priced real estate at Tax Deed auctions.

After some research I realized there were flaws in my sales strategy.

Firstly, the people who knew nothing about Tax Deed Sales weren’t searching for information on the subject because it was a relatively unknown method of purchasing real estate.

Secondly, the people I knew who were attending Tax Deed auctions were well informed and didn’t need my book.

After these two glaringly obvious problems became apparent, I put them aside and didn’t think too much more about how to increase my book sales. I just decided that whoever needed my book would find it somehow and those that didn’t know they needed it were out of luck and that they should know better…hmpf!

That conclusion came  in March 2008 and sales have steadily declined since.

After this weeks Online MBA lesson I learned:

“Embracing the diversity of human beings we will find a sure way to true happiness”.

(Malcolm Gladwell)

So how can this weeks Christmas gift change my sales strategy?

Simple…

Instead of targeting my product to one or two types of people, I can target it to 100 or even 1000 different types.

I just have to put in the work to make that happen.

My plan now is to create many different websites or web pages selling the same product. The difference between these sites and pages will be in the sales copy.

Not only will I target people looking for information on Tax Deed Sales but I will also target the following:

1. People looking to buy Foreclosures

2. People looking to buy short sales

3. People who are renting

4. People looking for “handyman specials” (ugh I hate that term!)

5. People who are beginning real estate investors

6. People who want to become landlords

7. People looking to buy their first homes

And the list goes on and on…

All this time my eyes were covered by blinders the size of President Bush’s “bad decisions I made while in office” checklist.

I discovered that I don’t need to specifically target my product or business to one type of person and that embracing diversity is the key to success. The real issue for me is finding an efficient way to create  the extra content to make this strategy profitable. I have a habit on focusing on too many things at once resulting in dilution of productivity and progression.

As Dee Kumar states, “I can either be everything to someone or nothing to everyone”.

-Till next time…
