This week on the Online Marketing MBA course I looked at tailored business tools. I found out exactly what they were and why they are essential to my business, I even learned how to create my own unique and completely tailored business tools too!
Firstly though, I wanted to highlight another issue which is quite personal to me… the consulting problem. My regular readers will know I am a website designer and SEO consultant. I am indeed a ‘one man band’, a true ‘jack of all trades’. I’ve further learned this week that this is simply not good for business. Why? Again my readers will know I am prone to illness from time to time. If potential clients knew this, they would always opt for another ‘firm’ of consultants to help them build their business, rather than me.
Even if they didn’t know I had a long-term health condition, they would still choose a firm over me… the lone ranger. Why? As they just want a job doing, and they know in the back of their minds that if something did happen to me I would be unable to complete the job. Not only this, but one person simply cannot know everything. A firm of people have more ideas, more strengths, and more power to overcome weaknesses. Together they can offer a total solution to a problem.
How do I overcome this problem? Well Dee Kumar showed me a great technique which will help me to build my own firm of consultants! Yes that’s right, I now know how to easily expand my business and offer a lot more services than I am able to offer clients by myself. My clients will now see me as a firm and the ‘go to’ place for all their needs. I really must go back to my SWOT analysis (rather Dee Kumar’s Kung Fu SWOT with a twist) and include these new findings. So exactly how do you create your own firm? That’s not for me to tell! Invest in the Online Marketing MBA course and Dee Kumar will reveal all.
Right, back to tailored business tools… I’m not talking traditional business tools such as laptops or accounting software etc. By tools, Dee Kumar means a tool that is highly customised and unique to your own business.
Why is this important? It gives you direction when offering services, it stops you procrastinating… something you all know I struggle with immensely, however with Dee’s help I am continuing to overcome this with all the secret techniques I learnt in the foundations module. Not only that, but it helps you stand out from all of your competitors. You now have a customised business tool which proves you have the experience and ability to complete a job. You will stand out from the crowd with ease. Imagine you can send a client your quote, along with your unique business tool… they are going to be well impressed. As Dee states time and time again, it is the 10% extra effort that makes 90% difference!
I’ve managed to create two of my very own tailored business tools so far. One internal tool which I could pass on to any of my new-found ‘firm employees’, to help them easily implement my strategies. I’ve also created another external tool which I will use for clients when creating a Google Places listing for them, which virtually guarantees them a page one result on Google! How cool is that?!
I have only just begun creating my own tools, and I have so many others planned. If you want to learn more about them and exactly how you can create your own tools for your own business, you know what you need to do… purchase the Online Marketing MBA course now! Without a shadow of a doubt, tailored business tools are a must for any business.

I agree with you on bolstering your “one man show” status. It’s hard for companies, especially larger organizations, to believe that a sole practitioner can adequately service their business. There’s no question that having people around you will strengthen your sales pitch.

Great post Dave, all of us on this course learned a fantastic lesson this week – How to boost a one man business and make it look more credible. You do not have to have health issues for this to be a problem, I have encountered it for myself. Corporates can’t afford to take the risk on a one man or woman business.
