Tooltime – The art of business tools creation.

How to create business tools

I was introduced to Dee Kumar’s technique of having a tool on one of our mastermind calls. Since I am not so much of a business lingo fan, I was at first a little hesitant as giving it a fancy name is part of the process. Now I understand that it is very important to get your creativity sparking, but it has been overused so often that I was not aware of this at first.

A tool in this context is something that allows you to show your client, that you have a structure and a plan on how to accomplish the task they pay you for.

The tool itself does not need to be too specific, but it can be a good way to show, which services you can deliver to your client. For yourself, the tool can be used to illustrate your services and how they interact with each other. I found it very useful for generating different consulting packages, as I it allows me to identify clusters of task that make sense to be grouped together.

One tool to rule them all?

It sounded very compelling to me to put everything I can offer in one master-tool. However, this approach is prone to failure because every client has different needs. So this master-tool is actually something I made for myself to map out my fields of competence. I have a simplified version of it ready which I can show the client or use it as a visual guide to explain, which steps we have already taken and which ones should follow next. This is somewhat of a selling tool for me.

But the method to generate tools as taught in the Online Marketing MBA is also useful to create work-tools for yourself.

This also helps me to focus on one particular task. When it comes to setting up monitoring for example (which is a major branch in my selling-tool) I have a special tool just to say which type of analytics-solution is suitable, which social media monitoring tool to use, which indicators to track, and how to peak at the competition.

I initially shied away from tools, but after learning to create them properly, I’m beginning with Dee’s help to begin to love them. So will you, when you join this course…
