What disappoints me particularly about The Apprentice UK 2011 is the way Alan Sugar makes it seem that all the businesses he gives them are easy to operate.
What disappoints me about task 1 in The UK Apprentice
In the first task, teams of eight people were given £250 to spend on fruit and vegetables and turn it into a profit.
None of the teams seems to have to consider the price of packaging, the cost of hiring a professional kitchen or the cost of hiring catering vans that were on prime locations. All unbelievably high costs which were totally not considered.
Add to that the fact that they only made a few hundred pound at best to split between eight people shows just how little they really made.
I believe both teams set their targets so low, and Alan Sugar also never seems to make a point of if they would be happy with their individuals shares had it been a real income.
What would make it better in my eyes would be if they were given £250 to spend on anything they want, but they simply had to return a good profit within a day. They would show true entrepreneurship and mean everyone had to pull some weight.
What disappoints me about task 2 in The UK Apprentice
Anyone who believes an app can be made by a normal person within 24 hours is out of their mind. Add to that the fact that it would gain prominent position on certain download sites and the fact that leading technology websites would even want to discuss your application.
The teams were each given a crack team of coders who worked overnight. The cost of these coders would have simply been immense. Something that never factors into Alan Sugar’s head when he suggests making apps is so easy that everyone should do it.
I credit the fact that the show recognised and encouraged the adoption of apps and its creation but it still disappoints me when they make it sound unrealistically achievable.
As a business show I believe they have a little responsibility to present some of the luxuries these teams are given that normal businesses will not.
